Priority issues & challenges

1. Road Infrastructure

Road infrastructure remains underdeveloped and neglected for decades, with many link roads and urban routes in poor condition. Recent efforts have completed the 2-km Tank city main road and rehabilitated several link roads, but broader network issues persist.

2. Water Crisis

Tank has faced a longstanding clean drinking water shortage, with residents historically relying on inadequate or non-functional tube-wells. Initiatives in 2025 — including solar-powered tube-wells, pipelines, and a 120,000-gallon reservoir at Tanchi — aim to improve supply, but scarcity has persisted for years.

3. Health

Healthcare facilities are limited and under strain, with the primary tehsil-level (Type C) hospital serving about 470,000 people plus patients from neighbouring areas such as South Waziristan, resulting in overcrowding and the need to travel elsewhere for many treatments.

4. Unemployment

Youth unemployment challenges are typical of underdeveloped southern KP districts, where limited economic opportunities and reliance on agriculture, migration, or informal work exacerbate joblessness among young people.

5. Environmental Challenges

Environmental issues include pressures from waste management, water contamination risks, and ecological strain; local rivers and water bodies face threats from untreated discharges and pollution common in the division.
